Bamberg in Black and White

Some of my favorite black and white photos I have taken over two trips to the beautiful city of Bamberg in Germany. This was one of the places I fell in love with during my three years living in the gorgeous state of Bayern. (2020)
My favorite photo of this project and a cathedral with loads of history. Original construction started in 1002 but has since been rebuilt a few times due to fire. The last rebuild was in the 13th century. It is the only cathedral in Germany to house a pope's remains, as well and King Henry the II and his wife. I went for this angle of the remarkable building due to the maintenance scaffolding that seems to cover almost every cathedral I visit.
A carving of a crucifixion scene carved into the wall of a building in Bamberg, Germany.
Chimneys protrude from rooftops of multiple buildings in Bamberg, Germany. I was showing my son how to use a camera when I took a photo similar to this using his camera. I liked the way that it looked and envisioned a black and white photo, so, I grabbed my camera and took another shot. For me, it turned out as good, if not better, than I wanted. (Some spot removal took place to remove distracting specks on a roof)
One of the more famous locations in the town of Bamberg, and one of the reasons I was excited to visit here, the Obere Brücke (Upper Bridge) and the old Rathaus (Town Hall). I was not expecting the foot bridge for the “famous” shot to be so close and my lens was not wide enough, so I had to take a couple of shots and merge them in post-processing.
A different angle of the courtyard of the Alte Hofhaltung (Old Court) next to the Bamberg Cathedral. Something about this view drew me in. I stood behind the old Black Smiths building and fell in love with the lines of the old building framed by a roof and the branch of a tree. I cannot help but wonder how many others stood there and saw the same thing I did.
A small barred window guarded by a lion at the ground floor of the Historisches Museum in der Alten Hofhaltung. One can only imagine the things that have been seen through this portal.
A fountain in a wall across from the entrance to the Bamberg Cathedral. The water that comes out of it is perfectly safe to drink, allowing people the opportunity to fill a water bottle or a handful to quench a thirst.
The Princes Entrance of the Bamberg Cathedral. I took this on a whim since last time I had visited there was a large tarp over the door. The lines and tones tend to draw me into the door every time I look at it.
A barge is anchored on the Regnitz in Bamberg. This is my second attempt on this shot. I envisioned a black and white before COVID happened and tried a few shots with the wrong lens on. Months later I returned to find the barge still anchored and was able to get what I wanted.
